2007 Whitaker-Keane Memorial Scholarship to Robin Kohn
The Friends of the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center (FMSAC) awarded their 2007 Whitaker-Keane Memorial Scholarship to Robin Kohn of Mount Shasta on September 10th. The scholarship will cover tuition expenses for the National Avalanche School, October 21-26 in Snowbird, Utah.

“Robin has a solid foundation of avalanche awareness and has been using her knowledge for years to help others in the community become better educated with respect to snow hazards. This opportunity will have long-term beneficial effects on the safety of the broader Mt. Shasta backcountry community and perfectly reflects what the Friends group is all about.” said board member Keith Potts.
The scholarship fund was set up in 2004 in the name of two teenagers, Travis Whitaker and Kevin Keane, who were killed in an automobile accident after summiting Mt. Shasta. Each year the FMSAC awards scholarships to an educational event or certification course with the intent to spread greater avalanche awareness and backcountry safety to the Mount Shasta area.

The Friends of the Avalanche Center would like to congratulate Robin and invite everyone to mark their calendars for the 6th Annual “Snowball”, the non-profit group’s main fundraising event, which will be held on Saturday, January 26th, 2008.
